The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is the typical method for assessing the literacy skills of students in Ontario. This test is used to determine whether students meet the provincial secondary school literacy requirement for graduation. Students typically take the OSSLT in Grade 10, but a deferral may be granted by the principal. English as a Second Language and English Literacy Development students take the test when they have reached an appropriate level of proficiency in English, with the test scheduled by the principal. Students who are English Language Learners may be entitled to special provisions
